Doing Something
I would like to put on an event to give aid to charitable organizations in the Gulf Coast.
The ideas I've been tossing around come down to either a sort of block party or a few hours of somewhat-impromptu theatre.
Personally I like the theatre idea better because people can read excerpts from Tennessee Williams plays, but that's just me.
In either case there's a number of things that are needed for free or low cost.
A park with a stage would be good if you know how to get permission to use it.
Street space if you know how to get the permission to close it off (not that you know that they do close it off from time to time - but if you know *how*), also where to get something to be the stage.
A healthy sized theatre. Here I mean something that can sit at least 100 people at a time without freaking out the fire marshall.
If you don't know of such a space do you know of someplace someone can rent sound equipment for stage amplification for cheap? Do you think the owner might be interested in lending it for a Good Cause?
Finally, if not space or equipment can you get me in touch with people willing to give their time to perform a reading, or maybe a band looking for time/space to perform a gig?
If I can get any or all of this organized this might not be as impossible as it sounds.
If it makes any difference the night for such an event would almost have to be a non-Saturday. I'm not even going to try to compete!
Finally, I'm going to try to arrange to have a presence from various non-profits there, including someone from the Red Cross.
The whole point is to give to those less fortunate. If you can help in any way I would greatly appreciate it.
X-posted around.
